End of an Era for Adobe Flash Player

By December 31 2020, your computer will no longer have Adobe Flash Player. The program was first developed way back in 1996 and at its peak, played a centre stage in video and gaming platform.

Why is it the 'end of life?

As Adobe calls it, the 'End of Life' (EOL) was necessary because there are lots of cheaper alternatives like:

  • HTML5
  • WebGL, and
  • WebAssembly
In other words, there are free and much faster versions out there and it is not economically viable to maintain.

Remember, you won't be able to download Adobe Flash Player again. When it's gone, it's gone!

Why does it matter?

It really does not matter much to modern computers.

But, considering that YouTube was once running on Flash, it is a huge sentimental thing for the code-geeks.
